They Live (1988)

7/10

very intriguing and underrated film

They Live is about a drifter who discovers a pair of sunglasses that allow him to wake up to the fact that aliens have taken over the Earth.(imdb)

If the synopsis hasn't grabbed your attention, I don't know what will.

I randomly found this on TV some time ago while channel surfing and saw a bit of it again today. I am very captivated by the cleverness of the story and the underlining messages that this movie carries. Despite some of the goofy graphics, John Carpenter's They Live is a very entertaining, clever and a worth-while movie to watch.

They Live puts focus on the idea of subliminal messages, advertisement and consumerism that is a part of our every day life. Carpenter may have put a bit of a twist on these ideas, but he highlights them perfectly and with humor.

Extremely underrated film! I won't say anymore, rather will leave it up to you to venture through.
